Dr. Chunming Qiao（乔春明，8011校友 http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~qiao/homepage/Homepage.html）is a Professor at SUNY Buffalo where he directs the Lab for Advanced Network Design, Analysis, and Research (LANDER), which conducts cutting-edge research work on optical networks, wireless and mobile networks, survivable networks, TCP/IP technologies, recently Cyber Transportation Systems (a part of Internet of Things), Smartphones and Cloud Computing. His h-index is over 50 with a single paper citation exceeding 2,000.

Qiao‘s Department has three faculty members all graduated from USTC and had many USTC students. Prof. Qiao has graduated 22 PhD stduents, many of whom have become successful faculty members in the US or had a great career in major IT/Telecom industry. 

He is  very interested in hiring students from USTC in Computer Science, Information Science and EE for graduate study.

Education

B.S. 1980-1985, University of Science and Technology of China (Computer Science and Engineering).

Graduate Study 1985-1987, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) (Computer Science and Engineering). Left for University of Pittsburgh in Jan 1988 before finishing my degree.

Ph.D. 1988-1993, University of Pittsburgh (Computer Science). GPA: 4.0/4.0. Dissertation: "A High Speed Interconnection Paradigm and Its Applications to Optically Interconnected Networks".Advisor: Rami Melhem.

Awards and Honors

Distinguished Ph.D. Candidate Award, Andrew Mellon Educational Trust, $10,000, Sept. 1992

Best Tutorial Paper Award in 2004, IEEE Communication Society, Nov. 2005

UB Exceptional Scholar: Sustained Achievement Award, University at Buffalo, April 2005
