Position Summary:

As a Mobility Speech Scientist, you are responsible for delivering quality speech solutions for our customers based on state of the art speech recognition technologies. You will be called upon to perform Recognition grammar building, Statistical Language Modeling, Language Model and Acoustic Model Adaptation for Chinese languages running on our very large vocabulary recognizer. You will do deep and insightful analysis of recognition performance for our custom solutions and make and implement recommendations to meet or exceed various Key Performance Metrics. You must also be able to translate client business requirements into highly accurate and scalable recognition solutions. You will need to move quickly and easily from one engagement to the next, and be comfortable with multi-tasking. You must be fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese as well as English.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform Statistical Language Modeling, Language and Acoustic Model Adaptation

• Develop and deploy GRXML style grammars from data feeds

• Develop and deploy language and data packs

• Develop tools and enhance algorithms that facilitate deployment and tuning

• Analyze recognition performance, identify hot-spots and recommend and implement solutions to provide optimum accuracy

• Analyze deployed applications to optimize and enhance recognition accuracy based on real usage data

• Act as technical lead on intensive customer projects

• Collaborate with cross functional solutions delivery and R&D teams to create quality solutions that satisfy customer requirements

• Provide inputs to system sizing as it pertains to grammar and recognition complexity

• Provide input into design of future product releases     

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

Required Skills:

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues

• Strong programming skills, preferably Perl or Python

• Demonstrated experience in Large Vocabulary Natural Language Speech Recognition

• Prior experience with development of automated data work flow

• Good judgment and quick thinking

• Excellent written and oral communications skills in Mandarin, English and Cantonese (demanding)

• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and prioritization skills

• Ability to both lead and follow

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of Speech Recognition, understanding of Speech Recognition algorithms

• Knowledge of Statistical Data Analysis

• Prior experience application of speech recognition technologies applied to Automated Directory Assistance, Search, Messaging

• Prior experience with handling and normalizing large amounts of data    

Education:

MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Cognitive Science, Computational Linguistics, Physics, Mathematics, or related fields.
