Neil Gong ( http://home.engineering.iastate.edu/~neilgong/index.html ), an assistant professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Computer Science Department (by courtesy) at the Iowa State University, is looking for motivated Ph.D students starting in Fall 2016.

Neil Gong will provide the students with full scholarship (i.e., the students do not need to pay tuitions, and each student will receive a monthly salary of $1900+). Iowa State University is in a nice college town, where living cost is relatively low ($1000 per month is usually enough for a single person).

The students will work on exciting research topics about the security and privacy issues in social medias, mobile computing, and Internet-of-Things.

However, students have freedom to choose research projects that they find most interesting. Students with data mining/machine learning experience and good programming skills are preferred, but any motivated student will be considered.

Iowa State University is famous for its engineering school (e.g., the first electronic digital computer was invented at the Iowa State University). The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is highly ranked in US. According to US News, the Computer Engineering graduate program is ranked 35th and the Electrical Engineering graduate program is ranked 41th among all US universities/colleges.

Biography: Neil Gong is an assistant professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Computer Science Department (by courtesy) at the Iowa State University. He got a Ph.D in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2015. He had a B.E. in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2010, and he obtained Guo Moruo Scholarship. His publications frequently appeared in top venues in the information security and data mining areas. His research has been widely covered by popular medias such as WIRED, NPR, and Science Daily.

龚真强，2006年从重庆巴蜀中学进入中国科大计算机系学习。2009年获得郭沫若奖学金，2010年前往加州大学伯克利分校计算机科学系攻读博士学位。2015年出任衣阿华州立大学助理教授。
